Honolulu Zoo

London Zoo
|
Sir David Attenborough officially opened London Zoo's Komodo Dragon House on July 12, 2004 as part of the European Conservation Breeding Program. The breeding program suffered a disaster on August 18, 2004 when the female Komodo, Nina (recently arrived from Miami), died from internal injuries from a fall sustained after managing to scale a seven foot tall partition between her enclosure and that of male Komodo, Raja, now the sole exhibit (Tweedie, 2004). Miami Metro Zoo
|
In 1998, the Komodo Dragons at Miami Metro Zoo produced 27 live hatchlings. At the time this was only the third instance of Komodo Dragons being bred outside of Indonesia. These hatchlings have made their way to other zoos in North America and Europe. Ron Magill, goodwill ambassador from the zoo, has also showcased Komodo Dragon's on the David Letterman Show and CBS's the Early Show. The zoo has also funded studies on the genetics of wild dragons in the Komodo National Park (Magill, 2004). Visit Resource >>

Taronga and Western Plains Zoos - Sydney

Taronga Zoo's Serpentaria has one large male Komodo Dragon called Tuka, named after the Flores village where he was caught. Tuka has been at Taronga since 1992 and had been in an Indonesian Zoo for 10 years before that. Visit Resource >>
